IS
ACUPUNCTURE SAFE? Yes. Since acupuncture does not involve the use of drugs, you avoid the risk of side effects and dependency.
Many patients find that acupuncture reduces the side effects of some drugs, and the need for certain medications can often
be lessened or eliminated over time as a result of treatments. The needles are all individually packaged and pre- sterilized,
and are only used one time before disposal, so there is no chance of infection.
DO THE NEEDLES HURT? The needles
used today are extremely fine - slightly thicker that a human hair. Most insertions are made just below the skin's surface,
and sensations vary from patient to patient. You may feel nothing at all, or you may feel a slight ache or tingly "electrical"
sensation. There is no comparison to the longer, hollow, hypodermic needle.
IS ACUPUNCTURE COVERED BY INSURANCE? Sometimes. It depends on your individual carrier and policy. It is best to check with your provider. I am a preferred provider
for Carefirst Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Maryland. If you have other insurance which covers acupuncture, I can give you the
papers to submit for reimbursement.
DO I HAVE TO BELIEVE IN OR UNDERSTAND IT FOR IT TO WORK? Acupuncture is
effective whether or not you believe in it. The proof comes from the positive results seen after treatments on children and
animals.
WHAT IF I AM HEALTHY? CAN ACUPUNCTURE PREVENT FUTURE PROBLEMS OR ENHANCE HEALTH? Yes. Acupuncture
has traditionally been used as a preventive medicine, and for health maintenance. Recent research has verified that acupuncture
stimulates immune function, which increases resistance to bacterial and viral infections. Many people find that occassional
acupuncture "tune-ups" help them to feel "in sync". Studies show that people receiving regular acupuncture get sick less often
and recover more quickly, and have markedly fewer long term health care costs.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT WHEN I COME
IN FOR A TREATMENT? You first session will last about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. You will have the opportunity to speak at length
about your health concerns. This sessions includes a medical and life history, followed by a non-invasive physical exam, and
then a needle treatment. Subsequent visits will last about one hour. All sessions are conducted in complete confidentiality. WHAT DOES ACUPUNCTURE TREAT? THE
WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION has documented that acupuncture successfully treats: Chronic and acute pain Migraines/Headaches Depression/anxiety Digestive disorders Sinusitis Hypertension Insomnia Sciatica Chronic Diarrhea Constipation Asthma/Allergies Bronchitis PMS/Menopausal symptoms Infertility ...and more
